Nissan Automotive Design: Design Director Speaks in Ontario

Nissan Automotive Design - Altima badgeIn a recent visit to the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD), Nissan/Infiniti designer Alfonso Albaisa spoke about the future of automotive design. As the director of design for Nissan’s luxury division, Albaisa has become one of the most influential people in the industry.

During his visit to the OCAD, Albaisa spoke about his love of fluidity and motion. In a video documenting the experience, you can see first-year Industrial Design students get excited about his visit and his discussion of the latest Nissan automotive design.

“When you are a child, you’re naïve enough to believe you can make anything – that’s the beauty,” said Albaisa. “And just as you grow older, reality sinks in that you can’t make anything. But that’s not true actually. We dream of driving, so there is this romantic vision of how a human desires to go beyond our own means. I think the car embodies this. To be able to give shape and a sense of this dream – I love it.”

Albaisa has worked on both the Nissan Altima and the Maxima platforms, as well as the recent Infiniti Q80 design. All of his designs are styled to capture the epitome of motion, what he considers to be one of the greatest experiences. Albaisa’s visit is a prime example of the ways in which Nissan is working to reshape the future of the automotive industry.

Nissan Jumps Up Five Spots in J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study

2012 Nissan Murano Vehicle Dependability Study

2012 Nissan Murano

Nissan improved five spots up to rank 13 in the latest J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, putting it ahead of the industry average for vehicle dependability.

The study looks at problems experienced in the last year, reported by original owners of 2012 model-year vehicles, which may vary from serious engineering issues to more minor on-board technology hiccups.

Automakers with the least amount of problems per 100 vehicles (PPH) are ranked highest. This year, Nissan jumped up five spots and recorded 19 PPH than the industry average. We’re taking that to mean that if you buy a vehicle at Harte Nissan, you’re more likely to be satisfied three years down the road than with most other cars.

In addition, four Nissan vehicles were ranked among the top three most dependable within their respective segments: the 2012 Murano took top honors in the Midsize SUV category, while the Altima, Frontier, and LEAF each took ranked second in their own categories. New Generation GT-R will Retain Engine Setup

We cannot wait to hit the road in the new generation GT-R.

We cannot wait to hit the road in the new generation GT-R.

If you’re a traditionalist and also a Nissan GT-R fan, we’ve got some good news for you here at Harte Nissan of Hartford, CT. The GT-R has always had a front engine setup—and it will continue to have a front engine setup for the new generation GT-R. Of course, it will be a hybrid setup now, but the rumors of a mid-engined GT-R can officially be put to rest.

Shiro Nakamura really put the nail in the coffin, with a statement, “Mizuno-san says the GT-R will always be a front-engined 2+2-seater coupe,” referring to the GT-R’s creator. He did also say it would be a hybrid setup, so hopefully we’ll see the fruits of that, in terms of both performance and efficiency, when it is redesigned.

Of course, we won’t actually see the GT-R until 2018 most likely—but we’re excited for it already! You can come see us here at Harte Nissan to learn more about the new model, the possibilities of a hybrid 2+2 setup, or anything else about the Nissan brand today. We’ll be excited to talk to you—and take you for a test drive as well!

Nissan #withdad Campaign Celebrates Fathers

For the first time in nearly twenty years, Nissan is making an appearance in the commercial lineup for the Super Bowl. To ensure that this new ad campaign goes off without a hitch, the Japanese carmaker has started the Nissan #withdad campaign, a new program that celebrates the efforts fathers, mothers, an children make to keep family a priority, even during a busy work week.

To help tease this new commercial, Nissan has come together with a variety of YouTube content creators to put together special pieces of content that speak to the #withdad theme.

“After nearly a two-decade absence from the Super Bowl as an advertiser, we want to maintain the excitement and anticipation of game day. With so many commercials airing before the big game, I fundamentally believe it takes away much of the magic of showing the commercial on the biggest stage of the year,” said Fred Diaz, senior vice president of Nissan Sales & Marketing and Operations in the U.S.

“Prior to the Super Bowl, we do however want to build suspense around our story, while provoking a social conversation around the overarching theme. Our highly creative YouTube content creators help us do just that as we get ready to share our spot with America on Super Bowl Sunday.”

The teaser films are available to view here, and you can see the extended version of the Super Bowl commercial below!

Want to celebrate your dad or mom with the new Nissan #withdad campaign? Share your thoughts with Harte Nissan below!

Lucky Drivers Say Self-Driving Nissan LEAF “Almost Autonomous” Already

Self-driving Nissan LeafThe Nissan LEAF already sticks out in the public’s mind as the most popular electric car, and rightly so, especially after a particularly strong 2014. However – by 2020, the LEAF is going to be known as something else: the self-driving Nissan LEAF.

Multiple attendees of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month were given the opportunity to try out the current version of the self-driving Nissan LEAF model, with the vehicle receiving incredible reviews and being referred to as “almost autonomous.”

If the Nissan LEAF is “almost autonomous” already – imagine how incredible the vehicle will be by the time it hits the market in 2020.

Nissan recently announced its decision to team with NASA to develop this self-driving technology, which NASA will use to drive cars around on Mars. That’s right, you could someday be driving the same cars that tear up the turf on Mars.

Unfortunately, 2020 is a ways away. So in the meantime, visit us at Harte Nissan to check out the Nissan models we have available, including the Nissan LEAF.
